Widespread flooding creates havoc in Stellenbosch
Heavy rains over the past few hours and during the night created havoc in Strellenbosch and caused the Eerste River to burst its banks in various places in and around town.
“Due to extremely heavy downpours, many roads in the municipal area are partially or completely flooded. Our teams are ready to respond and have closed off certain roads,” Mayor Gesie van Deventer said in a statement this morning.
“Please be extra careful when travelling on the roads. It is advisable to stay at home if possible. Please take care and be assured that we are doing everything humanly possible to divert more disastrous situations,” she said.
Please contact our Municipal Control Room to report localised flooding or flood-related damages: 021 808 8999 or send a WhatsApp to 079 622 4722. A Joint Operations Centre (JOC) has been set up at the Control Room to handle all requests for assistance. Please work through this channel.”
