Taxi violence hits Stellenbosch
The taxi violence created by the strike by taxi association SANTAGO also impacted Stellenbosch and its residents and the Kayamandi police station was torched last night.
Sporadic incidents of stone throwing still flares up from time to time.The situation in Kayamandi is very tense and volatile. Stellenbosch Municipality is working closely, day and night, with SAPS and Public Order Police to contain any violence. They are in the process of applying for an interdict at the Western Cape High Court. Please pray for the safety of Law Enforcement officers facing extreme danger. Please avoid the Kayamandi area. The R304 at Kayamandi remains closed.
Yesterday one truck was set alight in Kayamandi at the traffic circle. The R304 is closed from time to time and affects traffic in both directions. Traffic is being diverted through Cloetesville. All other roads into the Stellenbosch Municipal area are open and free-flowing. Law Enforcement and Traffic Services are on the scene.

SAPS, the Public Order Police (POPS), as well as Stellenbosch Municipality’s Law Enforcement and Traffic Services are working together to monitor any potential acts of public violence.
