Festival of song for 600 learners

Stellenbosch primary schools ready for a festival of song

Some 600 primary school learners from a total of 17 primary schools are hard at work in preparation for the  e’Bosch School Choir Festival 2023.

The annual highlight choir festival will be held at 18:00 on Thursday September 28, at the Coetzenburg Sports Centre. Tickets at R20.00 per person are available at the door.

The e’Bosch School Choir Festival 2023 is the largest gathering of school learners for this type of event in the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek districts. This will be the second instalment of the e’Bosch School Choir Festival which due to its magnitude was split into two with the secondary schools’ performance already concluded earlier this month on 1  September.

“For this event we divided the 17 primary schools into three clusters who will start off and perform in their respective groups. This will be followed by all 17 schools performing  the mass choir item United Light specially composed for e’Bosch by Xander Kritzinger,” says e’Bosch Schools Choir Festival Director John Frans.

“We are also delighted that the Stellenbosch University Brass Ensemble under the direction of Pamela Kierman, will accompany the choirs once again this year,” says John.

The 17 primary schools participating this year are Cloetesville, St Paul’s in Faure, St Idas, Rietenbosch, Pieter Langeveldt, Ikhaya, AF Louw, JJ Rhode, Klapmuts, Dalubuhle, Joostenberg, St Vincent, Simondium, Devon Valley, Raithby, Weber Gedenk, and Dorothea.

“The e’Bosch Heritage Project, founded in 2011, is a response to decades of social exclusion and stands for respecting human dignity, eliminating social injustices, and facilitating inclusion for all. It encourages everyone not only to celebrate their own heritage, but also to build bridges between different social and cultural groups,” says Sias Mostert, board chairman.
